11/21/05 turned into 10-22

Early afternoon of 11/21/05 Station 43 was first toned out for a car fire in Polk Township. 43-1-1 responded with a crew of 4 and 43-5-5 responded with a crew of 2. After almost arriving on scene we were 10-22'd (cancelled for those who dont use 10 codes) by Station 35. While returning from that call we were toned out to an MVa with fluids down on Route 209 near the Pocono View Motel. We were almost on scene when we were also 10-22'd to that call. No photos of either call because we never got there.

Interesting Article

This is a little article written by a guy I used to run with in SC. Thought it would be of some interest. Let me know what you think.

So how would you feel?

Dennis Lopez, Firefighter/EMT

I want you to think to your self how your community would be effected if it lost one of its firefighter. Volunteer or Career aside. How would it make you feel if one of your own was to loose there life. Remember these people risk there lives, sanity and family lives to provide a service to the community they live in.

"Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something else is more important than fear"

Firefighters come in all shapes and sizes, all ethnicities, and both genders. They dedicate a large portion of there lives to education and training them selves to be better firefighters. Career and volunteer must maintain there professional certifications in order to continue to serve there community. Time taken out of there lives in preparation for helping yours…

"Tradition lives because young people come along who catch its romance and add new glory to it."

Now what kind of person says, yes I wont to be woken up in the middle of the night, hours before I have to go to work, and fight a house fire, rescues people from a tangled car, or help granny back into bed after she has fallen. Someone who cares more about the felling of others then there own. A quality all firefighters should posses.

“I provide a nameless faceless service to a community that rarely knows how much they need me. If I am called from a sound sleep, and loose my life attempting to same someone life or property, I will do so with out regret.”

Think to your self the next time you see a firefighter, under all that equipment, reflective striping, and that funny hat. There is a man or woman who left a family behind to run into that burning building to save you and your personal possessions, is standing in the highway cutting someone’s loved one out of a car, is doing CPR on someone’s mother, father, brother, sister. These people really do risk there lives everyday. 10 to 12 firefighters die every month. Give every firefighter the respect of your appreciation. You have no idea how great it makes us feel.

Update on Jonas Hotel Fire

Brodheadsville man charged in three fires, including Jonas Hotel
| |

By GEMA MARÍA DUARTE

Pocono Record Writer

JONAS -- An arson arrest was made after a series of fires the last two months, officials reported.

Tiberiu Mugar Mironescu of Brodheadsville was arrested Oct. 23 after admitting to setting fire to the Jonas Hotel on Sept. 3 and New World Voyagers Inc. on Oct. 17 and again on the day he was arrested.

The 29-year-old allegedly set the historic hotel on fire from outside the structure with a pile of cardboard boxes and trash, according to Hazleton Fire Marshal reports.

The fire caused severe damage to the kitchen, dining room and bedrooms.

Fire damage to the hotel was about $200,000, said Mike Pandolfo, one of the hotel's owners.

Hotel guests were evacuated after a couple of residents driving on Jonas Road noticed flames in the back of the structure.

They called 911, woke up guests and helped evacuate the structure.

Damages to New World Voyagers Inc., which is less than a mile away from the hotel, were unknown late Tuesday.

All three fires occurred between 4 and 6 a.m.

Since the hotel fire, Pandolfo has been focusing on getting his business running, but when state police showed up at his business to tell him the news of the arrest he said he was blown away.

"I think it's tremendous that he finally got caught," said Pandolfo, who plans to re-open the dining area with a full menu on Friday. "I'm glad they caught him and he's off the street."

Mironescu had his preliminary hearing on Monday at Magisterial District Judge JoLana Krawitz's office.

Mironescu is being held at Monroe County Correctional Facility in lieu of a $75,000 bail.

Here is the article frm the Pocono Record

One dead, one severely injured in West End crash

BRODHEADSVILLE -- A Saylorsburg man died and two others were injured after a crash on Route 209 near Brodheadsville early Thursday morning, just a half mile from where Pleasant Valley High School sophomore Jessica Dettrey died in a crash in September.

Police said that Matthew John Solderitch, 27, was driving south on Route 209 when, in front of the Agway, he lost control of his car and crossed the double yellow line and hit a Ford pickup head-on.

The truck, driven by 58-year-old Jerry D. Eckhart of Palmerton, rolled over onto its roof and stopped in the northbound lane. Solderitch's car then hit a Dodge pickup truck driven by 47-year-old Paul Smith of Effort which was travelling north on Route 209 behind Eckhart.

Solderitch was pronounced dead at the scene by Monroe County Coroner Dave Thomas. Eckhart was airlifted to Lehigh Valley Hospital near Allentown with a severe hip injury. Smith had a minor arm injury and did not require treatment. Police said that Smith was wearing a seatbelt; Solderitch and Eckhart were not.

Evergreen Hollow Road- in a creek

11/1/05- November gets off to a quick start with an MVA on Evergreen Hollow Road. A driver went off the road and struck two trees and landed in the creek. The slope of the ground made driver extrication interesting. 43-7 had command, 43-8 landed Medevac.
